Bend Charts

Choosing a Bar Bend

Handlebars are a critical part of bike setup and everybody has different preferences. There are a few basic things to consider when setting up a bike with new bars. These are just observations we have made since we deal alot with setting up the controls. Remember everybody has a different preference.

1. Height of the rider (taller riders usually need taller bars or bar positions)

2. Type of riding (depending on where you ride woods, desert, moto etc. Woods riders tend to sit more and may prefer a bar with more sweep. Desert riders stand and sit both and a neutral sweep bar may be a better choice. Moto riders tend to stand in the attack position more and a bar with less sweep “straighter” might be a better choice.

Contour Bends

The Contour bar is available in over16 different bends and 4 colors.

Handguards for Off Road, Supermoto and Dual Sport

Cycra ProBend Alloy Handguard Racer Packs

The Cycra Probend Alloy Handguards are designed for off road, dual sport and supermoto applications. ProBend’s have a unique shape and look that separates them from the competition. This unique shape “ProBend” provides additional clearance on the end of the grip for your levers and hands making for a more comfortable setup. Cycra ProBend’s also feature a new Abrasion Guard that can be taken on and off for street or off road applications.

Probend handguards are made from Billet 6061 aircraft grade alloy for strength and durability. Racer Packs are available with or without mounts and come pre packaged with natural handshields.

ProBend Mounting Styles

There are several mounting styles available to work with most setups. Depending on your model there are basically 2 different mounting styles; triple clamp mounts, handlebar mounts or the solutions mounts.

Side Pinch triple clamp mounts are designed to mount your handguards directly to the triple clamp where the pinch bolts come from the side. This setup is considered to be the best at preventing handguards from spinning on the bars. Depending on the triple clamp some slight modifications to the backside of the bracket may be necessary for proper fitment against the triple clamp. Longer pinch bolts are supplied and required with this style mount.

Front Pinch triple clamp mounts are designed to mount your handguards directly to the triple clamp where the pinch bolts come from the front. This setup is considered to be the best at preventing handguards from spinning on the bars. Depending on the triple clamp some slight modifications to the backside of the bracket may be necessary for proper fitment against the triple clamp. Longer pinch bolts are supplied and required with this style mount.

U-Clamp handlebar mounts are designed to mount your handguards directly to the handle bar using Cycra’s unique U-Clamps for both standard and taper bars. This setup provides a solid mount and does not hinder the bar’s ability to flex. U-clamp mounts provide clearance for your brake line and control cables.

Solutions handlebar mounts are designed to mount your handguards using 2 U-clamps and a strap that reaches across the the inboard side of the handguard. This setup is best suited to applications that have a triple clamp with a wrap style pinch such as the OEM KTM’s and won’t accommodate the front or side pinch mounts. This mounting system is a pretty solid setup.

BRP Flexx handlebar mounts are designed to mount your handguards directly thru the pivot tube on your Flexx Handlebar system and don’t affect the ability of the handlebar to flexx. The BRP Flexx Mounts are the only available handguard mounting system for the Flexx Handlebar System.

Special Notes:
Handguards are made as a universal product and every setup is different. There are several variables that influence the fit of these types of hand guards; such as bar width, height, position etc. When installing new hand guards it’s usually best to fit the hand guards up and float them in before you tighten any bolts. In some cases it may be necessary to slightly bend the hand guard to fit correctly especially if you’re running a very narrow handlebar.

Cycra ProBend Composite Hand Guards

Finally a quality plastic enduro hand guard. The Cycra Composite Probend hand guards offer a light weight and durable wrap around style hand guard for off road.

The ProBend Composite hand guard uses the traditional expandable bar end insterts on the outsite and the U-Clamp style mount for the inboard side if the hand guard.

Available in white, black, red, blue, green, yellow and orange. Mounting for 7/8″ or 1 1/8″ handlebars. Please specify which bars you are running when ordering.

When running Stealth MX or DX hand guards it’s recommended that you run a wrap of teflon tape around the handlebar below the mounting bracket; so if you crash your hand guard will be able to move and reduce the chances of it breaking.

Scotts Stabilizer Information | Click here for installation videos

The Scotts steering stabilizer is by far, the best investment you will ever make toward your bike setup. Not only will you get the benefits in performance, endurance and safety with a Scotts stabilizer but they are proven to help minimize rider fatigue, arm pump, wheel deflection and virtually eliminate head-shake allowing you to ride longer, harder and faster! Once you ride with a Scotts stabilizer you will never want to ride without it. Basically the stabilizer works like a fully adjustable hydraulic shock absorbing unit for your steering. The Scotts steering stabilizer has 3 fully adjustable damping circuits and unlike other stabilizer’s it features no damping back to center allowing you to fine tune the Scotts stabilizer for all riding conditions.

BRP is an authorized Scotts Stabilizer Dealer and Service center with an extensive knowledge of stabilizer mounting applications. We have a complete line of stabilizersmounting kits and replacement parts.

Scotts Stabilizer Adjustment Features

The Scotts stabilizer has a very wide range of adjustments. With it’s 20 clicks of Low Speed adjustment, High Speed tune ability and multiple sweep settings there is no doubt you will be able to tune the stabilizer for your riding conditions and style.

Low Speed Circuit is adjusted by the external Base Valve Knob and is active when the bars are turned slowly. There are approximately 20 clicks of adjustment.

High Speed Circuit is adjusted by the hidden High Speed Valve Screw and is active when the bars are turned quickly. This circuit is extremely sensitive and we recommend leaving it at 1 1/2 turns out.

Sweep Control is adjusted by the screws on the side of the unit and allows you to control how far from the centerline out in either direction the unit will dampen. There are 4 different settings. (See Diagram to the left)

No Damping Back to Center is adjustable but offers better cornering control by not having to overcome damping back to center.

Mounting Styles

There are 3 different mounting styles available for the Scotts stabilizer. Conventional, SUB Mount and Low Mount. See your model for specific applications. We have kits for most late model mx and off road machines.

Conventionally Mounted Stabilizer

Dirt Bike Stabilizer Top Mount

The Conventionally Mounted Stabilizer is the original style above bar mounting for your stabilizer. The above bar mounting works great on most applications. We have both weld-on or Bolt-on kits for most models including mini applications.

SUB Mounted Stabilizer

Dirt Bike Sub Mount Stabilizer

The SUB Mounted Stabilizer is the latest in stabilizer mounting. This setup mounts the stabilizer below the bars and is a great setup for all applications. The SUB Mount offers a 1″ taller bar position for most models. We have Bolt-on kits for most models including most mini’s.

Mounting a Scotts stabilizer on your machine is usually a pretty easy process. There are 3 basic mounting requirements for a stabilizer.

Appropriate link arm: The standard Scotts stabilizer for conventional mount applications comes with a stepped link-arm and depending on your application and model a reversed link arm, longer link arm, or even a flat link arm may be required.
Bolt on / Weld on frame bracket or tower: The tower is a stationary post that makes the connection between the frame and stabilizer link arm. Use of the correct and properly installed tower is crucial to the proper function and life of the unit.
Stabilizer Mount: The appropriate mount Scotts top bar clamp, SUB Mount or Low Mount. The appropriate mount is vital to the performance and life of your Scotts stabilizer. Shop your brand or contact us to confirm the fitment for your model.

Special Notes:

When it comes to mounting stabilizers there may be certain limitations based on 3 primary factors:
1. The triple clamp shape
2. Bar mount location
3. Frame & tank clearance
In most cases the ability to get a stabilizer on your model shouldn’t be a problem. On some SUB Mount applications you may need to modify the adjuster knob or use the pointer style knob due to clearance issues. If your not sure if there is a mounting application for your bike navigate to your dirt bike brand or contact us and we will be happy to help you. Scotts Stabilizer Tower Information

Scotts Performance offers Bolt-on and Weld-on towers to suit most applications. The Scotts Performance bolt on tower or frame bracket is the stationary post that actuates the Scotts stabilizer. Bolting to the head tube of the motorcycle, Scotts Performance towers are machined using the latest CAD design and CNC technology to ensure a precise fit, ensuring years of reliable performance. Scotts Performance bolt-on towers are precisely manufactured from chrome alloy steel to fit each application perfectly for an easy bolt-on assembly. They are finished in a bright nickel plate that should last the lifetime of the motorcycle. There are various types of Bolt on towers:

Conventional Bolt on Tower: Mounts around the head tube. Designed to work with OEM, BRP and Scotts Performance applications. Other applications will work but may require some modifications to allow for proper installation.

Conventional SUB Mount Bolt on Tower: Mounts around the head tube and has a shorter post specifically designed to be used with BRP SUB mounts.

XR 250/400/650

Oil Fill Tower: Mounts in oil filler neck, mainly used on XR 250/400/600/650 and requires removing damper and tower to be able to check or change your oil. Dip stick will have to be carried along in pack or tool pouch.

Forward Mount Tower: Bolts around head tube and has post located towards the front of the bike and does not require damper removal for checking or changing your oil. This application requires the use of a BRP triple clamp and is primarily used on XR 250/400/650 models and requires the use of a BRP triple clamp.

Forward Mount SUBTower: Bolts around head tube and has a shortened post located towards the front of the bike and does not require damper removal for checking or changing your oil. This application requires the use of a BRP triple clamp and is primarily used on XR 250/400/650 models and requires the use of a BRP triple clamp and SUB mount.

Weld on Towers: The Weld-on towers are a great option when there is limited space, Extreme heights that exceed the limitations of a Bolt-on tower or for those situations that do not allow for a bolt-on application. Weld-on towers are a universal tower that is designed to fit a variety of applications.

BRP is an authorized Scotts Stabilizer Dealer and Service center with an extensive knowledge of stabilizer mounting applications. We have a complete line of Scotts stabilizer mounting applications and replacement parts and when it comes to service we offer complete service on all Scotts stabilizers.

Special Notes:

SOME BOLT-ON TOWERS MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL FILING OR DRILLING TO ENSURE PROPER TOWER FITMENT. Some bolt-on towers require additional hardware in order to mount properly, such as: special rubber cones, special bar mount hardware or indexing the bar mount bolts to provide the proper clearance between the tower and the bar mount hardware. All towers come with complete step by step installation instructions. Check the Scotts Tower applications for your model.

Sub Mount Information | Click here for installation information

The BRP SUB Mount “Scotts Under Bar” is the latest in stabilizer mounting options. The SUB Mount is a below bar Scotts stabilizer mount that replaces your bar mounts on OEM, BRP or Scotts triple clamps and is designed to run 1 1/8″ handlebars.

SUB Mounting your Scotts stabilizer offers several benefits over a conventional “above bar” stabilizer setup.

  • – Concealed stabilizer mount reduces risk of injury
  • – Approximately 1″ taller bar position on most models
  • – Ability to run a bar pad for 1 more level of protection

SUB Mounted Scotts stabilizers are a very popular setup for GP’s, motocross, off road, dual sport and riders of all stature. The additional height of the SUB Mount can be compensated for with a lower handlebar bend. Applications are available for most late model mx, off road, dual-sport, supermoto and some mini bikes.
The BRP SUB Mount is designed exclusively for OEM, BRP or Scotts triple clamps and we have applications for most late model off road machines. If you have a triple clamp other than a OEM, BRP or Scotts; please contact us to see if we have an application.

SUB Mount Configurations

The BRP SUB Mount comes in one basic configuration. However some models have a specific configuration that differs from the norm. This would include the XR Honda’s that use the Forward mount style tower or the OEM KTM models that use the SUB mount adapter.

Dirt Bike standard sub mount setupStandard SUB Mount

Our standard SUB Mount is designed to mount on OEM, BRP or Scotts triple clamps and is the basic setup for most models. This setup usually raises the bar position about 1″ on most models. See your model for information.

XR 650 sub mount forwardXR SUB Mount

Our XR SUB Mount is designed for the 400 and 650R. This setup requires BRP or Scotts triple clamp, forward mount style tower, special link arm and extended throttle cables for XR 650’s; XR 400 will require cable rerouting. See your model for more information.

SUB Mount Adapters

SUB Mount Adapters are designed for the OEM KTM and Husaberg triple clamps. The SUB Adapter is basically an adapter plate for your Scotts stabilizer and bolts to your OEM triple clamp using 2 of the 4 existing bar mounting holes.

This is a great solution to both raise your bars 1″ while moving the stabilizer below the bars. The 1″ rise can be compensated for with a lower bend handlebar.

Dirt Bike Sub Mount Adapters

SUB Mount Stabilizers and Towers

Running a SUB Mounted stabilizer requires a shorter tower and a reverse mounted link arm on your stabilizer. Honda XR SUB Mount applications require a special extended link arm. The image to the right illustrates some of the basic components for a SUB Mount configuration.

BRP is an authorized Scotts Stabilizer Dealer and Service center with an extensive knowledge of stabilizer mounting applications. We have a complete line of stabilizer mounting applications and replacement parts. When it comes to service we offer complete service on all Scotts stabilizers.

Dirt Bike Sub Mount Towers Stabilizers

Handlebar Positions

The SUB Mount offers a 25mm taller bar position on most models. The handlebar position relative to steering stem or RTS will generally be comparable to the most forward bar position on the OEM triple clamp with the exception of models that have the multiple mounting points for the bar mounts. In this case the bar position will be comparable to the most popular position.

Special Notes:
When running a Scotts stabilizer in the SUB Mount configuration the arm will need to be reversed mounted. Using a lower bend bar can often emulate the stock bar height. Due to the SUB Mounts increased height, triple clamp style enduro handguard mounts will not work with many bar bends so we recommend running either U-clamp or Bonz mounts.

Triple Clamps Click here for installation information

With over 10 years experience in design, testing and racing we are an industry leader when it comes to triple clamps. We have the experience of working closely with several top level teams and riders to develop a line of triple clamps that offer improved ergonomics, handling and ease of mounting Scotts stabilizers. Rest assured when you are running a BRP triple clamp setup you are running the very best.
Generally you have several options available when selecting a triple clamp such as Solid or Rubber Mounted Bar Mounts (Most models).

  • Bar Clamp Configuration (Moto, SX, Scotts or SUB Mount)
  • Bar Mount Handlebar Size (7/8″ or 1 1/8″)
  • Bar Mount Height (1.240″, 1.360″, 1.640″)
  • Bar Position (Relative to Stem “RTS”)

BRP triple clamps are the only triple clamps on the market that are exclusively designed for mounting a stabilizer. We have the ability to mount a stabilizer on most late model mx, off road, dual-sport, super moto and adventure bikes including mini’s.
BRP triple clamps are manufactured to the highest quality standards from 6061-T6 billet aluminum making our triple clamps far stronger than the OEM units and comparable in weight. Finished in our signature black anodize.
Bar Clamp and Bar Mount Configurations

We offer 4 different bar mount configurations; Moto, SX, Scotts and SUB Mount. The Moto, SX, SUB and Scotts bar mount configurations are available for 1 1/8″ bars. Handlebar adapters that allow 7/8″ bars in 1 1/8″ bar mounts are available for those of you who prefer running the standard 7/8″ handlebar.

Handlebar Position Options

All triple clamps and bar mount configurations are different. At BRP most of our triple clamps offer a farther forward bar position than the OEM triple clamp. That along with the 3 lower bar perch height options and 3mm offset perches you have the ability to configure a handlebar position that works best for you.

Along with the image on the right and the bar position charts located on our Bar Position Page, you should have all the information you need to select the bar position and height that best suits you and your preferred setup.

Special Offset Clamps

What is a triple clamp offset? Triple clamp offset is the distance measured between the centerline of the steering stem bore and the centerline of the fork bores (see image). Some models can benefit greatly from a reduced offset, by reducing the offset or moving the forks closer to the steering stem you change the weight characteristics on the machine which will give the front end a more planted feel and thus reduce wandering and pushing in the turns. The benefit is a great deal more confidence in the front end allowing you to corner better and charge harder.

Additional Hardware

Some models may require additional hardware for headlight and odometer mounts such as the X model Hondas or the WR model Yamahas.

Special Notes: Some models may require additional hardware for light mounts, odo mounts and brake line guides. These items may be priced separately depending on the model.
